Root Canal Therapy

For many years, teeth that had an infection or diseased nerve had to be extracted. Now we can often save close to 95% of these cases with root canal treatment. At Dr. Lumani’s office, we believe in saving teeth instead of removing them so that you can have a happier, healthier, natural smile for a lifetime. A root canal is needed when the nerve of your tooth becomes irritated and infected, bacteria grows inside of the tooth causing pressure, pain, and sometimes swelling. Many things can cause this trauma, a physical blow, tooth clenching or grinding of teeth, deep decay, a large filling, or severe gum disease due to periodontal abscess.

Porcelain Veneers

An excellent alternative to crowns, porcelain veneers can perfect your smile by masking stains, hiding chips, correcting misalignment, and creating uniformity. Veneers, which are made of thin, customized material, are designed to slide over the teeth, look incredibly natural, are long-lasting, and are relatively easy to apply.

Porcelain Inlays / Onlays

Well-suited for restoring weakened back teeth, and equally appropriate for restoring more visible tooth surfaces, porcelain inlays and onlays offer a strong, attractive alternative to traditional composite fillings.  Typically considered for teeth that need a major portion restored, or teeth that endure heaving chewing loads, porcelain inlays and onlays offer the protection and strength of a crown without the need for extensive tooth preparation.  Made from the same strong, tooth-colored material as crowns and bridges, porcelain inlays and onlays are customized to match your tooth shape and shade—and are stronger and more durable than composite restorations.

Extractions

Although Dr. Lumani will use every measure to prevent tooth loss, there are still some occasions when a tooth needs to be extracted. A tooth may need to be extracted if the following occurs: severe decay, advanced gum disease, infection or abscess, fractured teeth or roots or impacted teeth (Wisdom teeth).

Crowns

Crowns are used to cover and protect damaged teeth. Crowns are often placed on teeth that are broken, stained, poorly shaped or misaligned. Crowns are also placed on teeth with large fillings and teeth that have had root canals. Crowns will match with your natural tooth colour as they are typically made of Porcelain or Zirconia.

Bridges

A dental bridge is used to “bridge the gap” left by a missing tooth and is secured in place by attaching it to the surrounding teeth. We can help you understand your options so that you can make the best decision for your dental well being.

Bonded Fillings

Tooth-Colored (or “Natural”) Composite Restorations

In the past, tooth problems like cavities or other trauma only had one viable treatment option: metal or amalgam fillings. Thankfully, advances in the science of dentistry have led to the development of resin compounds that, when bonded to your tooth, provide a durable filling with a much more natural color and appearance. Composite restorations can typically be applied within a single appointment and offer a viable alternative to metal fillings in many cases.

Our practice and our fillings are 100% amalgam-free.

Amalgam-Free

Colborne Family Dentistry is an amalgam-free (mercury-free) office. Porcelain based fillings are growing in popularity because they offer patients a durable, beautiful, and plaque-resistant alternative to the traditional silver filling.
